Attention to detail.
Be on the front foot with whatever step of the recruitment process you are at. Be specific with your cover letter and your resume addressing the criteria and exact person that the communication is going through to.
Remember the little things add up in a tough job market and when recruiters are receiving at least 100 applications for one advertised position make the decision making easy for them, to decide you are the right person to interview.
